Monthly Overview: May 2020
May looks set to be a reflective month for many, with three planets turning retrograde. The first major astrological event of the month is the intense Scorpio Full Moon on May 7th, which may well bring secret desires or hidden facts out into the glare of daylight. Any issues which arise from this will benefit, however, from Mercury’s trines to Jupiter and Pluto on May 10th, which facilitate healing words. Mercury’s shift into communicative Gemini the following day will also help.
However, May 11th also sees the first retrograde, from sober, serious Saturn, which teaches us to assess how well we are doing with our duties, responsibilities and limits. Saturn is joined in retrograde motion by Venus on May 13th, prompting us to review issues of both love and money. That same day, Mars enters Pisces, ushering in a few weeks of stormy emotions and hyper-sensitivity.
On May 14th, Jupiter also turns retrograde, so we can pause to question how far our optimism has been borne out thus far this year. The Sun creates trines to both Pluto, on May 15th, and Jupiter, on May 17th – these are fortunate astrological aspects, and suggest that where there’s a will, there’s a way. An interesting period for getting what you want.
The month rounds out with the Sun’s arrival in Gemini on May 20th, swiftly followed by a Gemini New Moon on the 22nd. This curious, creative, intelligent astrological energy is very good for a fresh start in most directions. When Mercury shifts into protective Cancer on May 28th, however, we will need to watch out for passive aggressive instincts.
MONTHLY OVERVIEW: June 2020
During June, the past is important and patience is needed before pushing ahead. Events may seem to drag their feet early in the month, especially when the Sun conjuncts Venus retrograde on June 3rd, which is a very backwards-looking vibe in astrology. On June 5th, a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius reminds us that even if we think we’ve finished a worthwhile project, details may still be left undone.
Life speeds up on June 6th with a tempestuous square between the Sun and Mars. This is a highly impatient, impetuous energy, and it can easily lead to rash decisions and foolish mistakes. With Mars currently in Pisces, the way ahead is not at all clear. Indeed, when the Sun squares Neptune on June 11th, and then Mars conjuncts Neptune on the 13th, confusion, deception, illusion, and scandal are a toxic mix. Avoid major decisions during this time – wait and see.
Mercury turns retrograde for three weeks on June 18th. During this period, repair your home or revisit your childhood. There’s an emphasis on the past here too, and the Solar Eclipse in Cancer on June 21st is an additional reminder of what has happened before – although here, the message is to learn from past hurts rather than to surrender to them. Neptune’s retrograde, which begins on June 23rd, will help with this process.
Finally, on June 25th, the energy lifts a little and we start to move forward once again, as Venus ends her retrograde period. Two days later, Mars triumphantly roars into its home sign, Aries, with a huge burst of positive energy. The month ends with the year’s second fortunate Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions, clearing the way for great achievement.
MONTHLY OVERVIEW: July 2020
July is a relatively quiet month this year, astrologically speaking. With no major sign changes and fewer ‘heavy’ aspects than recently, this is a chance to catch our collective breath. The July horoscope isn’t completely devoid of drama, however, and we start with a bang as the Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on July 5th heralds potent issues with power, authority, rules and regulations. Expect some whistleblowing on the world stage and, in our personal lives, some angst over who, exactly, is in charge.
Mid-July brings some relief as Mercury ends its retrograde period and turns direct in caring Cancer on July 12th. The same day, a beautiful Sun-Neptune trine ups the romance factor and helps us see the good in everyone around us. This lovely interlude may be short-lived, however, given a tricky Sun-Jupiter opposition on July 14th. This is optimistic, feel-good energy – but a little bit too optimistic. Some realism is needed to ground us, and that certainly comes the following day, as the Sun opposes Pluto and a tense stand-off pits ego against ego.
The New Moon in Cancer on July 20th counsels patience by the truck-load. Normally New Moons are great for a fresh start, but this one is coupled with a Sun-Saturn opposition that screams ‘wait!’. Fortunately, it’s not long until the Sun shifts into joyful Leo on July 22nd, so the latter part of July looks set to be sociable, good-humored, warm-natured and fun. Watch out for something being simply too good to be true right on July 30th, however, when Mercury opposes Jupiter and trines nebulous Neptune on the same day.
