Monthly Overview: July 2020
July is a relatively quiet month this year, astrologically speaking. With no major sign changes and fewer ‘heavy’ aspects than recently, this is a chance to catch our collective breath. The July horoscope isn’t completely devoid of drama, however, and we start with a bang as the Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on July 5th heralds potent issues with power, authority, rules and regulations. Expect some whistleblowing on the world stage and, in our personal lives, some angst over who, exactly, is in charge.
Mid-July brings some relief as Mercury ends its retrograde period and turns direct in caring Cancer on July 12th. The same day, a beautiful Sun-Neptune trine ups the romance factor and helps us see the good in everyone around us. This lovely interlude may be short-lived, however, given a tricky Sun-Jupiter opposition on July 14th. This is optimistic, feel-good energy – but a little bit too optimistic. Some realism is needed to ground us, and that certainly comes the following day, as the Sun opposes Pluto and a tense stand-off pits ego against ego.
The New Moon in Cancer on July 20th counsels patience by the truck-load. Normally New Moons are great for a fresh start, but this one is coupled with a Sun-Saturn opposition that screams ‘wait!’. Fortunately, it’s not long until the Sun shifts into joyful Leo on July 22nd, so the latter part of July looks set to be sociable, good-humored, warm-natured and fun. Watch out for something being simply too good to be true right on July 30th, however, when Mercury opposes Jupiter and trines nebulous Neptune on the same day.
MONTHLY OVERVIEW: August 2020
August looks set to be a complex month, characterized by confidence which can easily spill over into aggression. We start the month as the cosmos evidently intends to go on, with a difficult Mercury-Pluto opposition – when manipulation and game-playing are rife. The Aquarius Full Moon on August 3rd is a sober and perhaps pessimistic affair, joined as it is by a Mercury-Saturn opposition. However, the pace picks up on August 4th when Mercury shifts into bold, optimistic Leo and self-expression gets creative. On that same day, Mars squares up to Jupiter – although squares are often difficult aspects, this one provides courage and inspiration.
On August 7th, Venus ends its four-month tour of Gemini and shifts into Cancer, notably increasing our desire for emotional security and stability. There won’t be much of that around mid-August, however, especially under the influence of a highly aggressive Mars-Pluto square on August 13th. A couple of days later, Uranus turns retrograde in Taurus, inviting us to consolidate seismic changes in society’s structure. Stable and peaceful, it isn’t.
The atmosphere changes on August 19th when Mercury moves into practical, sensible Virgo and the search is on for negotiated solutions. When the Sun follows suit on August 22nd the focus is on hard work and due diligence. There’s some stop-start frustration on August 24th when Mars squares up to Saturn, but Cupid has answers for many of us with a breath-taking Venus-Jupiter opposition on August 25th. However, what Venus gives, Venus can take away – and a tense Venus-Pluto opposition on August 30th does not bode well for romance.
MONTHLY OVERVIEW: September 2020
September begins with an intense burst of planetary activity, much of which spreads confusion. The Pisces Full Moon on September 2nd is sensitive and illusory, and on the same day Mercury trines Pluto, adding ulterior motives to the mix. The same day, Venus opposes Saturn, bringing seriousness or even sadness in love, although the following day a Mercury-Saturn trine does help to stabilize emotions. Fortunately, the tumult of these early days settles down once Mercury moves into balanced Libra on August 5th, and when Venus swaps the emotional angst of Cancer for joyful, warm-hearted Leo on August 6th.
September 9th is marked by a sudden downturn in energy, as Mars turns retrograde, despite the positive and lucky Sun-Jupiter trine on the same day. On September 11th, the Sun-Neptune opposition brings fog and clarity could be hard to find. There’s a growing sense of optimism behind the confusion, however, as Jupiter turns direct on September 12th. Surprises – hopefully nice ones – come for love and money on September 15th when Venus squares Uranus, and we get the common sense to deal with these surprises on September 17th when the New Moon occurs in grounded Virgo.
Later in the month, communications could take a spiteful turn, particularly when Mercury squares up to Pluto on September 21st, and when Mercury shifts into Scorpio on September 27th. However, the equinox sees the Sun move into fair-minded Libra. This should help most of us deal well with any animosity. Saturn turns direct on September 29th, bringing extra patience – which is just as well, since a Mars-Saturn square on that same day highlights delays and frustrations.
